In new or rear side cars there are VVT-i, VVT, i-VTEC, i-DSi emblems, what is the meaning of all the letters? Yes, all the writing means technology that is adhered to certain cars. In TOYOTA manufacturers have VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) technology, HONDA also has i-VTEC (intelligent Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) and i-DSi (intelligent Dual and Sequential Ignition), as if not to lose SUZUKI also has VVT technology (Variable Valve Timing).

VVT/VVT-i


Is a technology developed by Suzuki and Toyota. The workings of both technologies are to utilize the overlap in the opening of the inlet valve. When the engine speed is still low or constant the overlap that occurs in the inlet valve is not so great. But when the engine is in need of great power then overlap valve opening will be bigger.

The purpose of the overlap in the inlet valve is to accelerate the entry of fuel and air mixture when the engine is in need of energy and for the occurrence of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) which although the fuel mixture has been burned there are times where the combustion gas still has HC (molecule Hydrocarbons).

Gas combustion products that still have a high HC, can still be burned again so that later gas out of the exhaust can be more environmentally friendly. The workings of this overlap are based on the hydraulic pressure of the oil in the engine. In Toyota, overlap cars occur when the engine speed has passed 2000 rpm.

VVT-i tech engine (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) is a variable valve timing technology engine developed by Toyota. VVT-i replaces Toyota VVT technology that has been implemented in 1991. The VVT-i engine is claimed to make the engine more efficient and powerful, environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient.

The basis of the VVT-i is to optimize engine torque at every speed and driving condition that makes fuel consumption more efficient and decreases fuel emissions as low as possible. How does it work? The way it works is quite simple. To calculate the optimal valve timing opening time, the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) adjusts to engine speed, incoming air volume, throttle position (accelerator) and water temperature.


In order for the target valve timing always to be achieved, the camshaft or crankshaft position sensor provides the signal as a correction response. The simplest language of the VVT-i system will continue to correct the valve timing or fuel and air inlet. Adjusted with a gas pedal footing and load borne for optimum torque in each round and engine load.
